Jack Daniels No. 7

  • Nose: Banana, oak, wood polish
  • Palate: Caramel, banana, oak char
  • Finish: Citrus, black pepper, oak spice
  • Alcohol content: 80 proof (40% ABV)
  • How to drink: Coke
  • Similar to: Jim Beam, Evan Williams, Maker’s Mark

Taste:

The nose brings a plastic banana scent, with hints of brown sugar, oak and just a bit of wood polish.

On the palate, Jack Daniel’s falls flat, with very little body as it lacks texture.

Somewhat sweet up-front, with oak char astringency coming behind overwhelming the sweetness as you keep drinking it.

The finish is almost non-existent, hot and peppery, with a hint of citrus and Gorilla Glue.

Is it good?

Jack Daniel’s is a bad sipper, is just too warm and peppery with some weird tasting notes.

Adding ice makes tunes down the heat and the pepper making it acceptable.

The best use you can make of Jack 7 is in cocktails, especially when mixed with Coke.

In fact, I can’t think of something better except for those Caribbean rums to mix with Coke.

Drink Jack Daniel’s with Coke or ginger ale and you will be very happy with it… beyond that it serves no purpose.

On the palate the Jameson shows a good body, is sweet and fruity, with a high vanilla note. There is a pesky metallic note coming late to the party, not something terrible but weird.

The finish has a medium length, mostly sweet with a dash of black pepper on the tail.

Is it good?

Jameson is a workhorse. It is a smooth and versatile whiskey that mixes nicely in any cocktail with no bad bite, well rounded and gets better when adding a splash of water, ginger ale or ice.

A few drops of water are enough to tune down alcoholic, peppery notes and that annoying metallic note.

Jameson is the best-selling Irish whiskey across the globe for two solid reasons: It is smooth and affordable offering good value for the money; solid option for casual drinking or something not too pricey.

If you want to make the most out of the Jameson mix it with ginger ale and lime; it is delicious and quite easy to make as you don’t need a PHD is mixing to enjoy one.

Jameson facts:
