Jameson is the best-selling Irish whiskey across the globe for two reasons: It is smooth and affordable offering good value for the money; solid option for casual drinking, mixing or something not too pricey and still decent.

Nose is floral with sweet notes of orange marmalade and caramel with a bit of alcohol coming behind but nothing too severe.

On the palate the Jameson shows a good body, is sweet and fruity, with a high vanilla note. There is a pesky metallic note coming late to the party, not something terrible but weird.

The finish has a medium length, mostly sweet with a dash of black pepper on the tail.

It is a smooth and versatile whiskey for mixing with no bad bite, well rounded and gets better when adding a splash of water, ginger ale or ice.

A few drops of water are enough to tune down alcoholic, peppery notes and that annoying metallic note.

There are a few facts worth knowing about Jameson Whiskey:

• Jameson is a blend of malted and unmalted barley aged for at least 4 years in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.

• This whisky is triple-distilled which is the norm in the Irish whiskey industry. Most spirits in are double-distilled but the Irish add a distillation as they like smooth liquors.

• Jameson is owned by Pernod Ricard, the French drinks giant.

On the nose, Jameson Orange is quite aromatic and smells like Jell-O.

On the palate, you get a blast of orange flavor tasting pretty much like Tang with a tiny hint of grain, cinnamon and menthol.

The finish is almost imperceptible, sweet with a generic fake orange taste.

Jameson Orange is not a proper whiskey but a flavored whiskey infused with “natural orange flavors” according to Jameson.

This is not a good dram as it tastes like plain cheap triple sec with an off-finish.

Jameson suggests drinking it as a mixer over ice with lemonade but I’d rather use something more punchy to make cocktails as it’s bottled at a mere 60 proof (30% ABV).

Overall, this is not something I recommend buying unless you have a penchant for Tang!

Jameson Whiskey is a better sip

• Jameson is a real whiskey that you can drink neat, rocks or make cocktails as it mixes incredibly well in any cocktail.
• Jameson Orange is an infused flavored whiskey bottled at low proof that serves primarily as a mixer that tastes pretty much like Tang and is not that good, TBH.
• Therefore, I suggest buying the traditional Jameson over the Jameson Orange unless you have a fetiché for Tang.
