The nose offers vanilla at first, followed by a hint of corn and ethanol.
On the palate, Black Velvet feels thin lacking in body. Flavor is mostly oak and ethanol on the first sip but mellows out into an overly sweet cotton candy flavor.
As you keep drinking it becomes bitter as oak spice starts to take over.
The finish is short and warm, with a strong nail polish note.
You could disinfect wounds with it but definitely this is something not for human consumption as it’s beyond bad.
This is one of the only whiskies I have tried that doesn’t get better with Coke as the nail polish note gets through.
I always try to find something positive about a dram but this is something for which I have nothing good to say.
This whisky is made in Canada by Heaven Hills, who crafts good budget bourbons such as Evan Williams which is a champ in terms of value and immensely better than the Black Velvet.

- Aged for 3 years.
- Mash is comprised mostly of corn.
- Crafted at The Black Velvet distillery in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
- The distillery features an automated operation system requiring just two employees per shift.
- Black Velvet is the second best-selling Canadian whisky behind Crown Royal.
- Owned by U.S. based Heaven Hills (Elijah Craig, Evan Williams, Henry McKenna, Larceny).

The nose brings sweet maple syrup at first, followed by apple juice and a whiff of alcohol that reminds of a cheap cologne.
On the palate, Canadian Mist feel thin and watered-down with a poor texture. Flavor offers corn up-front along a fair amount of rye spice. Maple syrup and vanilla come behind besides a paint thinner note.
The finish is short-lived, with a bitter hint to it, somewhat warm, leaving an unpleasant nail polish aftertaste.
Canadian Mist is bad and adding water or ice does nothing for it. The best use is in cocktails where you can drown its flaws making it drinkable but this is definitely something I can’t recommend.
This is one of the worst whiskies I have ever tasted so I recommend to run away from it.

- It has no age statement but is aged for around 3 years.
- Made from malted barley, rye, and corn are all sourced locally in Canada.
- Crafted in Collingwood, Ontario, at the foot of the Blue Mountain overlooking Georgian Bay.
- Introduced in 1967 by Brown Forman (Old Forester) and acquired by U.S. based Sazerac Company (Buffalo Trace) in 2020.

- Both are beyond bad and I strongly suggest you look into other alternatives as these whiskies offer some of the worst tasting notes I have ever sampled.
- Price might make them look attractive but is simply not worth it. Look into the Evan Williams or Benchmark Bourbon that are priced around the same level while offering a better experience.
- Keep in mind that life is too short to drink bad whisky.
