  • Nose: Vanilla, caramel, oak, old leather.
  • Palate: Creamy vanilla, honeyed, fine spices, oak.
  • Finish: Long and sweet, full of honey, brown sugar, caramel.

Nose is rich in honey and caramel, with an old leather hint and a whiff of oak coming behind.

On the palate, Blanton’s offers traditional bourbon flavors, is rich in butterscotch, vanilla and moderate rye spice only than richer and creamier than your typical bourbon.

The Blanton’s Single Barrel is just so smooth with the right amount of sweetness and oak making a super easy yet complex and interesting pour.

The finish is long, sweet and pleasantly warm with a bit of a NyQuil note coming late to the party.

Blanton’s is worth the hype, this is a super smooth and perfectly balanced bourbon with a creamy body making an entirely rewarding sipper; the best of all is that it is still reasonably priced and widely available.

Blanton’s Single Barrel drinks beautifully neat with no need to add water or ice to it.

Garrison Brothers Small Batch

  • Nose: Oak, vanilla, cinnamon, brown sugar.
  • Palate: Oak, grass, cinnamon, maple syrup.
  • Finish: Long, oak spice, fruity.

Garrison Brothers is made from organic 74% Panhandle white corn, 14% red winter wheat, and 11% barley making it one of the few wheated bourbons in the market.

The nose is big on oak at first, giving way to vanilla, cinnamon and brown sugar.

On the palate, you get a blast of wood at first, along oak spice and a sting of warmth yet not too severe. As you let it develop a hint of dry grass pops-up, along cinnamon and maple syrup.

The finish is long and somewhat warm yet pleasant, with more oak spice and a fruity note with a bit of banana to it.

Adding a dash of water releases more maple syrup, but also intensifies the already high oak note which is the common theme from nose to finish.

Not an easy drinking bourbon, it’s bold and a bit too high in oak but if you are particularly fond of wood you are going to love it.

  • Blanton’s is one of the most popular bourbons despite the price tag for a good reason: it’s extremely easy to like as it’s sweet and smooth, no burn, nicely balanced, no harsh or troubling notes.

  • Garrison Brothers is a different type of bourbon as it demands a wood-loving consumer to enjoy its overly oaked flavor profile.
