What do Gentleman Jack and Woodford Reserve have in common?
Both offerings were created by the late Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson, who later left to create Angel’s Envy.
However, Brown Forman owns Jack Daniel’s and Woodford Reserve, crafted in different distilleries.
Gentleman Jack is crafted in Lynchburg, TN, while the Woodford Reserve is in Versailles, KY.
Brown Forman also owns the Old Forester Whiskey.
How do they differ?
Gentleman Jack is not a bourbon but a Tennessee Whiskey.
A spirit distilled in Tennessee from at least 51% corn, aged in new charred oak barrels and filtered using the Lincoln County Process, filtering the spirit through charcoal before barreling.
Woodford Reserve is a bourbon.
This type of whiskey must also be made using at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak barrels.
The main difference is that bourbon rules don’t demand the spirit to be filtered through charcoal.
