Proper 12 Whiskey vs Teremana Tequila (Conor McGregor vs The Rock): Head to Head

Two celebrity drams head to head: Proper 12 Whiskey vs Teremana Tequila. Conor McGregor vs Dwayne The Rock Johnson. Which is Better? Discover it in an in-depth comparison.

Proper 12 Whiskey

  • Nose: Caramel, floral, vanilla
  • Palate: Ripe fruit, caramel, oak spice
  • Finish: Orange, caramel, oak
  • Alcohol content: 80 proof (40% ABV)
  • How to drink: Rocks
  • Similar to: Bushmills, Jameson

The nose kicks-off with a blast of vanilla, followed by hints of caramel and a floral note.

On the palate, the body feels a bit thin lacking in body. Flavor provides ripe fruit up-front, followed by caramel and bit of black pepper but nothing too severe.

The finish has a decent length, with very little to no burn, leaving a nice aftertaste of orange, caramel and a tad of oak.

Is it good?

Proper 12 is surprisingly smooth and sweet. I was expecting a rougher whiskey coming from the much beloved Conor McGregor.

There is nothing remarkable about Proper 12 but nor off-putting. It drinks easy making a good beginner’s whiskey as it does not have any challenging tasting note.

This is so smooth that you can drink it either neat or rocks or use it in a mixer to make cocktails.

This whiskey has gained notoriety due to Conor McGregor’s sponsorship which is surrounded by a team with deep knowledge in the booze business… more on that later!

Proper 12 facts:

  • Proper 12 receives its name from Dublin 12, the area in which he grew up.
  • Conor McGregor partnered with Ken Austin (former Avion Tequila and the man behind Teremana Tequila).
  • Proper 12 will be donating $5 of every case (12 bottles) sold to first responders around the world – up to $1 million annually.

Teremana Blanco Tequila

  • Nose: Agave, citrus, ethanol
  • Palate: Agave, green peppers, citrus
  • Finish: Orange, caramel, oak
  • Alcohol content: 80 proof (40% ABV)
  • How to drink: Rocks, Cocktails

There is a rich agave note of agave on the nose, followed by citrus and ethanol.

On the palate, Teremana tastes warm at first, followed by agave sweetness, green peppers with an earthy and mineral note. The body has a good creamy texture.

The finish is long, warm and a bit bitter, with some black pepper and agave aftertaste.

Is it good?

I’m pleasantly surprised with Teremana as it smells and tastes completely legit.

I don’t detect any additives or foreign flavors! It tastes like Tequila used to taste before being Americanized and artificially sweetened.

Teremana is good, not the smoothest but it drinks quite nicely with a large ice cube.

It’s also a good tequila to make margaritas on the cheap or ranch water as the ethanol note and the peppery flavors sit well in cocktails.

It offers good value for the money making it a good pour.

Teremana Blanco facts:

  • This is an unaged tequila bottled right after distillation.
  • As opposed to other celebrity tequilas that are crafted by third parties, Teremana owns its own distillery down in Jalisco, Mexico.
  • “TERA is meant to represent “Terre” which means of the earth and MANA the Polynesian spirit of the earth.

WhiskeyProper 12Teremana
  • Teremana is more tasty, bolder and satisfying than Proper which is overly smooth making a better release for newbies.
  • Teremana is an unaged tequila made from 100% agave grown in the Mexican state of Jalisco.
  • Drinking tequila 100% agave guarantees a morning free of headaches as agave spirits don’t give hangovers.

What do Proper 12 and Teremana have in common?

Proper 12 and Teremana have something in common and that is Ken Austin, a former accountant from Brooklyn who had incredible success with Avion Tequila.

In 2018 Austin sold Avion Tequila to Pernod Ricard, a French conglomerate of the spirits business in $100 million USD.

Since then he has been recruiting stars to launch liquors. You can’t really expect Dwayne Johnson and Conor McGregor to create successful liquor companies out of thin air.

Booze is a very competitive business that demands a lot of knowledge about crafting, marketing and distribution and you are unlikely to find that knowledge by fortune.
