Caskmates IPA is the result of aging the regular Jameson Whiskey in Irish India Pale beer casks for 6 months; the barrels come from the Franciscan Well Brewery in Cork.

IPA beers have diverse flavors as some can taste like pure citrus, while others are strong and bitter.

On the nose, there are hints of vanilla up-front, with caramel and a light fruity note coming behind.

On the palate, the Jameson IPA delivers the characteristic flavor oh hops right away followed by hints of citrus, oak and caramel.

The finish has a decent length, with a light bitter note to it and a touch of malt, with very little to no warmth in this whiskey making an easy drinker.

Jameson IPA offers some of the notes you expect to find in an IPA beer but quite subdued as you get more caramel than the signature bitter notes of this type of beer.

Drinks fine on the rocks but still prefer the old Jameson to make cocktails, in fact, it might be the best whiskey for mixed drinks!

Jameson Caskmates Stout

NoseMalt, chocolate, oak
PalateApple, floral, vanilla
FinishDark chocolate, pepper
Alcohol content80 proof (40% ABV)
How to drinkRocks

Caskmates Stout is the product of aging the regular Jameson Whiskey for 6 months in craft Stout beer-seasoned barrels from the nearby brewery Franciscan Well.

Stout is a dark, top-fermented beer known for its thick body, roasty and bitter character.

As you might imagine some of those tasting notes are present in the Jameson Caskmates.

The nose has a malty scent, along notes of chocolate and light oak.

On the palate, Caskmates provides a good mouthfeel as it’s smooth and almost creamy. Flavor hits with apple and a fresh floral taste and sweet vanilla.

The finish has a medium length, with more bitter chocolate to it and a dash of black pepper but quite restrained.

There is very little warmth in the Caskmates making an easy drinker.

Stouts have bitter chocolate notes and you get those on the nose and the finish but Caskmates fails to deliver them on the palate, where you get a more traditional Jameson Whiskey taste.

Not a bad dram, nothing to write home about, yet a marginal improvement over the regular Jameson and worth trying just for the change.
