Jameson Cold Brew takes the regular Jameson Whiskey as its base, while adding cold brew coffee made with 100% Arabica coffee, which is renowned for being the more flavorful, less acid and less bitter.

On the nose there is coffee aroma up-front, followed by a touch of caramel and just a whiff of alcohol.

On the palate, Cold Brew lacks in body which is expected as it’s just bottled at 60 proof (40% ABV). Flavor hits with bitter burnt coffee and dark chocolate, along a tad of sweet vanilla.

The finish is short leaving an aftertaste of dark chocolate behind.

Jameson Cold Brew tastes pretty much like a Kahlua Coffee Liqueur with no whiskey flavor at all… zero, zilch, nada!

Very smooth although somewhat bitter yet drinks better on the rocks and it becomes surprisingly good when mixed with Coke; you can also add milk to it and get a decent cold Irish Coffee.

Caskmates Stout is the product of aging the regular Jameson Whiskey for 6 months in craft Stout beer-seasoned barrels from the nearby brewery Franciscan Well.

Stout is a dark, top-fermented beer known for its thick body, roasty and bitter character.

As you might imagine some of those tasting notes are present in the Jameson Caskmates.

The nose has a malty scent, along notes of chocolate and light oak.

On the palate, Caskmates provides a good mouthfeel as it’s smooth and almost creamy. Flavor hits with apple and a fresh floral taste and sweet vanilla.

The finish has a medium length, with more bitter chocolate to it and a dash of black pepper but quite restrained.

There is very little warmth in the Caskmates making an easy drinker.

Stouts have bitter chocolate notes and you get those on the nose and the finish but Caskmates fails to deliver them on the palate, where you get a more traditional Jameson Whiskey taste.

Not a bad dram, nothing to write home about, yet a marginal improvement over the regular Jameson and worth trying just for the change.
