Nose is faint and sweet, with hints of brown sugar, vanilla, baking spice and oak.

On the palate, Weller 12 provides a creamy texture, is rich in vanilla, caramel, cherry and a bit of oak.

The finish is short-lived and smooth, with very little to no heat and rich in vanilla, caramel and oak.

Weller 12 is an easy drinker, smooth, with a buttery feel to it. The finish is disheartening as it is quite brief.

A few drops of water add a touch of spice in the front making it more tasty but do nothing for the finish.

This bourbon is not an upgrade over the more affordable and tasty Weller Antique 107 which delivers a more solid experience at a fraction of the price.

There are a few facts worth knowing about Weller 12:

  • Aged for 12 years in new, charred American Oak barrels.
  • Earned Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Nose is sweet, with cherry, butterscotch and maple.

On the palate, the Weller CYPB is thin lacking in body, sweet up-front with notes of caramel, vanilla and a tad of cinnamon.

The finish lingers with a bit of heat, fruity notes, vanilla and more cinnamon which is present from start to finish.

Weller CYPB is inoffensive and pretty mild, very easy drinking, it has the sweet and bready wheat flavor, but nothing super loud, complex or to write home about.

The finish is long with very little heat with and spicy and completely unremarkable.

If you can find this whiskey at MSRP which is around $40 is a good deal, but is not worth paying the secondary market prices at which this bourbon is offered.

Weller 12 vs Weller CYPB: Which is better?

12 is better than CYPB

  • Weller 12 is a better and more tasty pour than the CYPB which turns out to be a flop, IMO.
  • Not a big fan of Weller 12, though, as it lacks in finish but offers some good tasting notes, along a nice buttery feel making it quite enjoyable.
  • CYPB is a bit thin and that flavorful and not better than other whiskeys crafted at Frankfort, KY such as the Buffalo Trace.

I recommend looking at the Weller Antique 107 which provides great value making the best Weller for the money.

CYPB reminds me when Homer designs a car proving that some things have to be left to experts.
