On the palate, Weller 12 displays decent body but far from providing an oily feel. Flavor hits with cherry at first, followed by cinnamon, vanilla and a tad of oak.

The finish has a medium length, rich in cinnamon, with notes of caramel and vanilla.

No warmth or off-putting notes making a nice easy drinker, a bit more proof would make it immensely better, though, as it lacks a bit of punch to make a memorable whiskey.

There are a few facts worth knowing about Weller 12:

  • Aged for 12 years in new, charred American Oak barrels.
  • Earned Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Nose is sweet, with notes of butterscotch, vanilla and a drizzle of cinnamon.

On the palate, Antique 107 is creamy with a buttery texture, sweet and bready with notes of caramel, vanilla, tobacco, cinnamon and a tad of oak.

The Finish lingers, with a bit of a bitesomewhat peppery but satisfying nonetheless.

Weller Antique is not the smoothest bourbon as it has some warmth but is not harsh.

Adding water opens-up the bourbon, tuning-down the heat bringing some apple and cherry notes while making it easier to enjoy.

Overall, Weller Antique is an incredible sip, full of character although it requires you to deal with initial heat but nothing that a drop or two of water can’t take down a notch.

If you have tried the classic Weller Special Reserve you are going to find this one to be a full bodied and more flavorful whiskey providing an overall better experience.

There is one fact worth knowing about Weller Antique 107:

  • Does not have an age statement but is aged for around 7 years in oak casks.

Weller 12 and Weller 107 are wheated bourbons

Most bourbons use rye as secondary grain behind corn but Weller was the first to introduce wheat.

Wheated bourbons are generally softer and have a approachable flavor as compared to bourbons that use rye as their secondary grain, and have a slightly sweeter taste.

  • Weller 107 is a better and more satisfying pour than Weller 12 with a more pleasing and lengthier finish.
