Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Apple

Nose | Green Apple Jolly Rancher |
Palate | Green apple, sugar, cinnamon, honey |
Finish | Short, caramel, oak char |
Alcohol content | 70 proof (35% ABV) |

The nose is Green Apple Jolly Rancher with no other note to appreciate.
On the palate, Jack Daniel’s Apple brings more Jolly Rancher flavor, along a big sugary hit making it overly sweet. There is tad of cinnamon coming behind that gets overwhelmed in the cloying sweetness.
The finish is short-lived, with more apple flavor, along caramel and just a tad of oak char trying to bring some balance. There is a bit of heat on the way down, but nothing severe.
Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Apple is a Jolly Rancher in a bottle. Overly sweet, with no balancing tasting notes. Good for a sip or two but it becomes cloying making a bad pour.
It gets better in cocktails, though. Add mineral water to make a highball or drown it in ginger-ale but definitely not something I recommend as a sipper.
There are a few facts worth knowing about the Jack Daniel’s Apple:

Jack Daniel’s Honey

Nose | Banana, maple syrup, lemon, ethanol |
Palate | Honey, banana, oak, peppermint |
Finish | Honey, mint, spice |
Alcohol content | 70 proof (35% ABV) |
How to drink | Cocktails |
Similar to | Jim Beam Honey, Evan Williams Honey |
The nose brings the traditional Jack Daniel’s banana note, along a strong hint of maple syrup, lemon and a bit of alcohol, but nothing extreme.
On the palate, you get sweet honey and banana up-front, followed by a bit of oak char. There is subtle peppermint note to it which adds depth making it surprisingly interesting.
The finish is short-lived, mostly sweet, yet well balanced against a slight bitter note from the oak char, with mint and spice coming late.
Jack Daniel’s Honey is a pleasant surprise as I was expecting a cloying experience. Is not overly sweet and it has some interesting tasting notes that caught me by surprise.
It has no warmth or harsh notes making it a very easy drinker, thus you can drink it neat or rocks. You can also drink it in cocktails where it shines as a good mixer.

- Personally, I was expecting Honey to be much sweeter than Apple, but I was proved wrong.
- JD Honey has a sweet taste, yet nicely balanced against tasting notes that make it interesting enough and a good tasting pour.
- JD Apple is a bottled Jolly Rancher with very little to appreciate as it becomes cloying after a sip or two. You can make cocktails with it, as long as you don’t mix sugary soft drinks or it will make you crash. I wonder how it tastes with Red Bull!!!

I am a bar and liquor shop owner in Oaxaca, Mexico where I have tasted hundreds of different spirits; perhaps more than I should!
